With reports that the United Kingdom is on the path to developing a vaccine against the coronavirus, Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R) argued that it’s time for Congress to pass the RESULTs for Coronavirus Patients Act.
This week marked a possible breakthrough as the United Kingdom’s Oxford University began human trials on a possible coronavirus vaccine that could help prevent further spread of the deadly pandemic.
Specifically, the legislation in question is designed to fast track the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s approval process for any drugs, biologics and devices that are approved in other countries to combat COVID-19.
In a statement, the Texas Senator informed that “nearly 50,000 Americans have lost their lives and more than 26 million have filed for unemployment as a result of this pandemic.”
Moreover, Cruz noted that “when it comes to approving a vaccine that will save lives and ensure people can safely return to work, the American people don’t have time to waste to bureaucratic red tape for cures than have proven safe and effective in other countries.”
He asserted that “it’s time for Congress to pass the RESULTs for Coronavirus Patients Act now, so that should another country with renowned research facilities and safety standards develop a vaccine that can stop this disease and save lives, the U.S. is ready to bring it home.”
