As Democrats look to turn congressional seats blue in the Lone Star state, it appears that some Democrats will be voting across the party line as can be seen from a recent advertisement in support of Texas Rep. Michael McCaul’s (R) reelection bid, and not the candidacy of Socialist Democrat Mike Siegel.
In a new advertisement titled Results, Pamela Richardson, a registered Democrat, praises McCaul for “his work on childhood cancer.”
Having lost her own son, CJ, to cancer, Pamela asserts that “Michael McCaul is honoring CJ’s memory” by “leading the fight for more funding for cancer research.”
Pamela makes a distinction between McCaul and his Democratic rival, Mike Siegel, saying that he “is too extreme to find common ground,” adding that “he’ll make Washington worse.”
The advertisement comes at a time when Vice President Joe Biden (D) has been leading President Trump on national polls, but it indicates that the Democratic base is taking notice of an issue that Democrats have been facing from voters for the better part of the year, which is criticism of moving too far to the left.
With just under three weeks until the general election, this could potentially indicate a concern for Democrats across the country that look to either seek reelection or look to turn districts blue.
Siegel, along with fellow Progressive Julie Oliver, has garnered the support from radical Progressive organizations like Our Revolution for their unabated support for Socialist-minded causes and issues like the "Green New Deal" and Rep. Pramila Jayapal's "Medicare for All" measure in the U.S. House of Representatives. Siegel has also said that he would like to be invited to join Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez's "Squad" in the House if he wins his election against Rep.McCaul.
Oliver is facing a steeping climb against her Republican congressional opponent, Rep. Roger Williams.
