Allred, House Democrats refuse to file COVID-only stimulus bill

Any chance of a year-end COVID stimulus being voted on in the U.S. Congress is now a pipe dream for millions of Americans who were hoping that the federal government would come through with another relief check by Christmas.

Texas became the 2nd state to eclipse the 1 million reported cases of COVID this week, and Rep. Colin Allred (D) believes that the Trump administration is not doing enough to combat the virus, and could do more to help Congress pass another stimulus package.

“Texas has passed a grim milestone, with 1 million reported COVID cases. Everyone should do their part and wear a mask to stop the spread, but we need action.,” state Rep. Allred. “The outgoing Administration can still help us fight this virus and we should pass a package now.

Yes, the Trump administration could help “fight this virus” by signing legislation that would give temporary relief, but the problem here is the lack of leadership in the House of Representatives for refuses to work in a bipartisan way and put a meaningful and transparent deal together.

President Donald Trump has asked for a stand-alone COVID stimulus bill that he said he would sign, but Speaker Nancy Pelosi and many Democrats, including Rep, Allred, have refused to offer up a bill that doesn’t include subsidies for non-COVID-related measures and initiatives.

Democrats are said to be willing to hold off until former Vice President Joe Biden takes office to push for another stimulus relief bill, hoping that a sitting Democrat U.S. president will help them successfully pass the pork-ridden bill that Republicans have rejected.

With Republicans still in control of the U.S. Senate, refusing to negotiate with them to get anything done, could put vulnerable 2022 congressional Democrats in a very tough spot, even putting at risk the very slim Democrat majority in the House.
