Crenshaw Calls for "no More Lockdowns"

Although the election results are still being contested by President Trump (R), Americans are beginning to question what a Biden administration would mean for the United States as COVID-19 cases continue to skyrocket across the country. With states like California and New York urging for a national mask mandate and lockdown, they have also caused controversy over measures regarding how many family members can be present in the household during Thanksgiving.

However, in response to the arguments, Republican lawmakers across the United States have been on the offensive, and one lawmaker who’s voicing his disapproval of a national lockdown is Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R).

Taking to Twitter to share a clip of an interview conducted by FOX News, the sophomore Congressman asked his followers to “say it with me: No more lockdowns.”

He explained that “the science and reasoning are clear that the extreme costs on livelihoods and the economy are not worth the minimal benefits,” adding that “state and local officials need to stop this careless policymaking.”

In the interview, the Lonestar State lawmaker said that Governors enacting state lockdowns are “destroying people’s livelihoods,” questioning “what is their rationale?”

Crenshaw detailed that “the data shows that these lockdowns do not do what they've promised to do.” Instead, “the data shows that they cost an enormous amount on society… in health terms because people aren’t getting screenings they need.” Moreover, “they’re not going into hospitals anymore, there are deaths of despair, increased suicide, increased domestic violence, schools shutting down has enormous costs, businesses are going under.”

Ultimately, Crenshaw argued that “these officials just don’t care.”

President Trump has maintained that he does not agree with a national shutdown, which contrasts with a Biden Presidency that has hinted a national lockdown would be the answer in order to combat the rising numbers of COVID-19 cases in the country.
