Rep. Garcia Shares Water Shortage During Crisis

Residents of the Lone Star state have experienced difficulties as a result of an Arctic blast that has devastated the state. It has resulted in prolonged power outages, steep electric bills, and an threat that is only worsened when coupled with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In turn, lawmakers are quickly trying to respond to the pressing concerns, and Texas Rep. Sylvia Garcia (D) shared her own water shortage during the ongoing Arctic crisis in Texas.

Garcia shared a video of the challenge she’s currently facing with obtaining water. Though she has regained power, there is still a shortage of water, and Rep. Garcia commented that there’s no “water for drinking, water for cooking, water to do any dishes or doing laundry.” However, she noted that “the worst of it is water for… flushing.”

As a result, she has had to rely on rain water that she has collected throughout the year to use for the toilet.

In short, Garcia asserted that she “will continue fighting hard in Washington to ensure that we have power back in our homes, food on the table, and warm places to sleep.”

Speaking to Texans across the state, Garcia affirmed that “we will get through this together.”

Last week, when the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), Texas’ electric grid operator, lost control of the power supply, 2 million Texas households were cut off from power that Monday.

Governor Abbott issued a disaster declaration in all 254 state counties, and lawmakers from the state and across the United States have joined the effort to raise money and help Texans in need.
