Van Duyne Calls Immigration Influx a "Crisis" at the Border

Earlier this month, Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) criticized the Biden Administration, arguing that there are escalating concerns at the border that could yield a “catastrophe.” Mounting criticism also came from prominent Democrats like New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, who shared her disapproval at the Biden Administration’s decision to reopen a migrant detention facility in Texas. In response to the immigration concern, during an interview with FOX News, Texas Rep. Beth Van Duyne (R) commented on the “crisis” at the Texas border.

“We’re seeing thousands upon thousands of illegal immigrants pouring into this country basically at the invitation of the Biden administration,” expressed the freshman lawmaker. “They’re being offered checks, they’re being offered health insurance, they’re being offered pretty much everything including housing, and then we’re surprised that, during his campaign, when Biden said he was gonna open the border, now we’re somehow surprised,” she added, calling it a “created crisis.”

As a result, Van Duyne admits that this is a national security issue, and she commented that the “implications” are grave.

“First of all, we’re allowing drug smugglers, we’re allowing human traffickers, we’re allowing drug cartels into our country,” she explained, adding that things are only exacerbated because “when you have Mexico even urging us to tighten up because they’re having problems in their country… with this new policy, we need to listen.”

She went on to detail that the country is trying to actively combat a pandemic while trying to respond to economic concerns, so having an influx of illegal immigration is detrimental to the work ahead.

In terms of how the states should respond, the Texas lawmaker suggested that “some of the AGs start to step up and actually file suit and insist that the Biden Administration keep this country safe.”
