Former President Donald Trump blasted President Biden for his handling in creating chaos at the southern border that “could destroy our country,” saying his successor could have prevented the massive border crisis failure if all he did was just “leave it alone.”

“There’s never been anything like what’s happened at our border, and people are coming in by the tens of thousands. They’re walking in. All he had to do is leave it alone,” Trump said in his first televised sit-down interview since leaving office with Fox News ‘Hannity’ Monday evening.

“If he left it alone, we were setting record positive numbers, and people would have to come in legally

The interview is Trump’s first televised on-camera since he left the White House in January, although he really conducted his first sit-down interview with his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump earlier this month. Prior, Trump conducted the three interviews he did with Fox News was conducted over the phone.

During the interview, Trump also slammed the media over its coverages on Biden’s handling of the chaotic situation at the border, saying both the media and Biden White House are “playing it down” the record number of unaccompanied minors overwhelming detention facilities in less than 100 days since Biden has taken office.

“They would not stand for it, and they’re playing it down as much as they can play it down. It’s a horrible situation. Could destroy our country. People are pouring in, but you’ll see something as the months go by, like you’ve never seen before. Already it’s like you’ve never seen before,” Trump said.

Trump went on elaborating how Biden’s undoing of many of his hard-line immigration stance would have a devastating effect on our country.

“The other thing that people don’t talk about human trafficking and drugs. That’s doubled, tripled, and quadrupled coming in because that is pouring in right now, drugs are pouring in. We had it so tight. We were doing so well all he had to do is leave it alone. Stay in Mexico was a big deal. You know that wasn’t easy to get,” Trump said.

“If you look at Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, we were giving them $500 million, but they weren’t letting us take back MS-13, horrible people, gangsters, drug lords, horrible people, they wouldn’t let them come back. And as soon as I stopped payment, they called saying we would love to have MS-13 Back in our country,” Trump continued.

“So we couldn’t get anybody back, now we just bring it back. [Biden] ended that and now what he’s doing is that they want to give billions not millions… they’re going to be taken in billions and billions of dollars,” Trump added. “And what’s going to happen is that money is going to go to people that are going to bring people into our country. One other thing, they’re sending us not their best people. They’re sending us people, in many cases, not in all cases are murderers, drug dealers, human traffickers, rapists, really bad people. They’re sending us people from their prisons. Those people are coming into our country. And of course, it’s just common sense because all you have to do is take a look at what happened… but the three countries you have really some unbelievably dangerous people coming into our country. They’re not vetted from a criminal standpoint so we have murderers and rapists coming into our country, and they’re just walking in.”

Biden in his first day of office took unprecedented efforts in rolling back many of Trump-era immigration policies, including stopping the construction of the Trump-signature border wall and ending the “Remain in Mexico” program. Along with Biden’s more welcoming tone during the campaign, thousands of migrants have made the dangerous trek to cross the border, creating a nightmare for the Biden administration not even 100 days into office, as they still scramble to control the dramatic migrant influx.

A record number of 172,000 migrants were taken into custody at the U.S.-Mexico border for the month of March alone, the highest monthly total in over a 15-year record that has overwhelmed Customs and Border Patrol resources.

The former president noted the GOP gains in 2020 with its Hispanic voters, particularly in congressional districts along the southern border. In Texas 23rd Congressional District, a district that runs from outside El Paso all the way to the western edge of San Antonio and also the most border encompassed district remained in Republican stronghold with the election win of Rep. Tony Gonzales following the retirement of moderate GOP Rep. Will Hurd. Gonzalez won the district with just over 50% of the vote

“At the Texas border, we have the biggest Hispanic vote since — as the governor said to me…  since Reconstruction,” Trump said.
