Haitian President Jovenel Moïse, 53, was assassinated in his home last night, shot by gunmen.
The embattled President Moise took office in February 2017 when then-President Michel Martelly resigned.
According to a Fox News story on the assassination, President Martelly ruled by “decree” and refused or failed to hold Democratic elections.
“The news out of Haiti this morning is shocking and incredibly disturbing,” stated Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R). “ I call on the Haitian people and the international community to ensure the country’s stability so that democratic elections can be held in Haiti as prescribed by the Constitution. Democracy must prevail.”
