As of Jan. 4, 2023, a House speaker has not been selected, 20 Republican lawmakers have voted against Kevin McCarthy as House Speaker. Over the course of two days, there were six rounds of voting conducted without nominating a House Speaker. The final vote concluded “around 4 p.m.” today.

Grace Saldana, Editor-in- Chief for RSBNetwork, tweeted on Jan. 4, 2023, at 7:06 p.m., “If Republicans can’t even unite to vote in a Speaker of the House, how will they be able to unite and take action on the issues that matter to their base?”
Fortunately, despite not selecting a House Speaker yet, the House is scheduled to “reconvene to vote for the seventh time for speaker” at noon on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023.
