Dan Patrick
Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick (R) announced his appointments for the ongoing 88th Legislative Session. In his announcement, he stated, “As the Texas Senate begins its work this session, the committee assignments I made today will ensure we succeed in addressing the priorities of the people of Texas."
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) stated his willingness to work with Democrats on several bills. “Our committees have worked long hours throughout the interim to prepare for this session. The senators’ commitment to public service is unwavering and I am proud to serve the people of Texas alongside them. It is a team effort and we are ready to do the work Texans expect of us,” said the Texan official. He continued, saying, “The overwhelming majority of bills voted on by the chamber will have bipartisan support,” Patrick then went on to reassure Texan conservatives of his loyalty to their interests, stating, “But make no mistake, the priority bills will address the concerns of the conservative majority in Texas.”
It is unclear what exact concerns Patrick will address, but one could guess that border security, taxation, and voting legislation will be among the most popular, as well as more bipartisan issues such as gun reform and housing reform.
The Texas Lieutenant Governor seemed very pleased with the committee he assembled, making very bold claims. He stated, “This is the strongest, best equipped group of senators in Texas history. They are proven leaders with the expertise and experience needed to keep Texas moving in the right direction. That includes the most outstanding freshman class we have ever had.”
The 88th Legislative Session began on January 10, 2023, and continues through May 29, 2023.
