Rep. Castro Shares That He Underwent Surgery to Remove a Tumor

Texas Representative Joaquin Castro (D) announced that he recently underwent surgery to remove a tumor.

“Today, I successfully underwent surgery to remove gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumors. Last summer, doctors discovered these small, slow-growing, and mostly asymptomatic tumors after a series of tests,” tweeted Rep. Castro.

The Texas congressman continued, stating, “My prognosis is good. I expect to be home recovering in Texas for several weeks before returning to Washington to continue my work for the people of my hometown, San Antonio.”

The San Antonio native concluded his statement by expressing his appreciation for the staff that operated on him.

“Thank you to the doctors, nurses, and medical staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center and the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio for their care and treatment, and thank you to my family for their love and support,” stated the Texas lawmaker.

Rep. Castro has been an avid supporter of the physical and mental well-being of others. Recently, the Texas lawmaker secured funding to help prevent domestic violence.

The hundreds of thousands of dollars went to the Guardian House and the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio.

“Today, I'm proud to announce nearly $1M in federal funds that I got for domestic violence prevention programs in San Antonio & Bexar County. These funds will help @guardianhouse1 and @childrenhospsa expand their work to protect survivors and prevent child abuse in our community.” tweeted Rep. Castro.

Castro will spend extensive time recovering and healing at home, and will, presumably, resume his duties as chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on International Development; International Organizations; and Global Corporate Social Impact.
