Texas Representative Wesley Hunt (R) took to Twitter to challenge the Biden Administration's handling of China.
“The Biden Administration often talks about democracy, but when a democratic country really needs us Biden runs for the hills. No one is weaker on China than Joe Biden,” said Rep. Hunt.
In the video tweeted by Rep. Hunt, Secretary of State Antony Blinken (D) states the U.S.’s stance on China and Taiwan.
“On Taiwan, I reiterated the longstanding U.S. One China Policy. That policy has not changed. It’s guided by the Taiwan’s Relations Act, Three Joint Communiqués, the Six Assurances. We do not support Taiwan’s independence. We remain opposed to any unilateral changes to the status quo by either side,” said Rep. Blinken.
Hunt believes that the lack of U.S. support for Taiwan’s independence shows a level of hypocrisy from the Biden Administration.
Sec. Blinken’s remarks were made prior to his recent visit to China where he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
U.S.-China relations reached a low point after the “Chinese spy balloon” debacle that took place earlier in the year. The balloon was shot down at the orders of President Joe Biden (D).
In other news, Texas Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D) took to Twitter to celebrate the recent Supreme Court ruling on voting laws in Alabama.
“The Shelby case destroyed voting rights, it took away from the work of our late and important civil rights icon John Lewis. It destroyed voting rights for the people of Alabama and became the precedent for destroying voting rights nationwide,” said Rep. Jackson Lee.
The ruling came as a surprise to many who thought that the court would affirm the congressional maps that were redrawn in 2020.
“Today, the Supreme Court gave dignity to itself by doing the right thing, by giving the right to representation to thousands of Alabamians. So many cases of voting discrimination did not prevail because of the Shelby case.”
“This is a clarion call that the Supreme Court can and must fix injustices. Pass the Voting Rights Enhancement Act now!”
Rep. Jackson Lee wasn’t the only politician pushing for new legislation, Texas Representatives Sylvia Garcia (D) and Veronica Escobar (D) are continuing to push for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and The American Dream and Promise Act.
“Today I stood with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle by introducing The Bipartisan American Dream and Promise Act. I’m proud to lead this pivotal legislation to provide a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, TPS, and DED holders. #Dreamers," said Rep. Sylvia Garcia.
