Pres. Biden Releases Statement on High-Speed Internet Plan

President Joe Biden (D) released a statement discussing the administration’s plan to put high-speed internet in all areas of the country.

“For around 24 million Americans across this country, there’s no high-speed internet. And for millions more, their internet connection is limited or unreliable. High-speed internet isn’t a luxury anymore, it’s become an absolute necessity,” said Pres. Biden.

The President shared his views on the plan’s cost-effectiveness and how it could help American families.

“Our bipartisan infrastructure law is funding 35,000 projects across America, including hundreds of projects for high-speed internet. And to date, 19 million families are saving at least $30 a month thanks to our plan,” said Pres. Biden.

The $40 billion plan is supposed to make sure that every state has high-speed internet by the year 2030.

The money will be given out by the Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment program, with Texas receiving the most at $3.3 billion.

Despite the plan coming from the bipartisan passed infrastructure resolution, it has still received some criticism from Republican lawmakers.

In response to claims that he voted against Biden’s measure, Texas Representative John Cornyn (R) said, “You bet I did 1) because it was not paid for and thus grew the debt and 2) fueled inflation that is robbing Texans and other Americans of their standard of living. Broadband is important, but you don’t solve one problem by creating two more.  There is a better way.”

Texas has received a lot of funding recently. Texas Representative Sylvia Garcia (D) expressed her approval of the Federal Railroad Administration’s (FRA) recent funding for the city of Houston.

“Stalled-out trains have plagued our community for too long. Today we celebrate the @USDOTFRA's recent funding to reduce train blockages in the Houston area. These essential funds are the first steps to improving safety in our communities,” said Rep. Garcia.

The funding is to go towards the prevention of blocked roads in Houston. According to the FRA, Texas ranks third in train blockages.
