Rep. Escobar Addresses Sentencing of El Paso Murderer

Texas Representative Veronica Escobar (D) briefly addressed the upcoming sentencing for the murderer in the 2019 El Paso massacre.

In a tweet, Rep. Escobar recognized the gravitas of the hearing, while also expressing empathy for those who had loved ones that were killed in the shooting.

“While this week’s federal sentencing is an important step toward justice for the horrific tragedy of August 3, 2019, for many El Pasoans, it will also mean re-living the trauma of that day and every day that followed.”

The Texas representative and El Paso native emphasized how the hate-filled, racist attack has affected many of the survivors, as well as the friends and families of those who were attacked.

“Many of the survivors still live with significant physical and emotional pain and unfair financial burdens; the victims’ families still feel grieve the loss of their loved ones; and, the racist motivation behind the hateful attack remains incomprehensible.”

Rep. Escobar shared her desire for healing among those affected by the horrible shooting.

“I’m certain it will be profoundly difficult for many of the victims to provide their victim impact statements, but I hope the sentencing will be a powerful step toward healing, especially for those most affected by that horrible day.”

She concluded her statement with a message of hope.

“Together, our community will persevere and remain El Paso Strong.”

The shooter has pleaded guilty to 90 charges.

In other Texas news, Texas Senator John Cornyn (R) recently attacked President Joe Biden’s (D) “Bidenomics.”

In a tweet, the conservative Representative listed the things he had a problem with.

“Historic debt, wasteful Washington spending, and 40 year high inflation eating away the standard of living for American families: In 2022, alone, food prices increased by 9.9 percent! That’s Bidenomics,” said Sen. Cornyn.

His tweet was in response to a tweet from the President, who stated the good things the Biden Administration had done.

“13 million jobs created. We’re making things in America again. And we’re taking action to bring down costs on kitchen table items. That’s Bidenomics,” said Pres. Biden.
