Rep. Roy Explains Additions Made to NDAA

After a contentious vote on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), Texas Representative Chip Roy (R) explained the additions he and fellow Republican representatives made to the legislation.

In a tweet, Rep. Roy criticized Republicans for passing previous NDAA bills.

“Year after year, Republicans pass an NDAA that propagates the cultural rot at DOD,” said Rep. Roy.

“This year, @HouseGOP changed that narrative with huge conservative victories […] Rep. Roy passed these amendments to put the DoD back on track and hold them accountable to Americans they represent.”

One of Rep. Roy’s first amendments to the bill was to address the allocation of money going toward abortions.

“Amendment 1: Stop taxpayer funded abortions in the military […] Rep. Roy joined @RepRonnyJackson to stop Biden’s radical, pro-abortion agenda and end the Pentagon’s slush fund. This is a huge victory for saving babies.”

The Texas lawmaker brought questions about the U.S.’s spending to help Ukraine defend itself against the barrage of Russian attacks it faces.

“Amendment 2: Ukraine spending accountability […] To establish a Ukraine Inspector General office w/ robust reporting requirements to oversee all military & non-military U.S. assistance for Ukraine,” said Rep. Roy.

“The American people deserve to know EXACTLY where their money is going”

Diversity and Equity Initiatives (DEI) have become controversial. Rep. Roy took aim at the programs as he attempted to stop DEI positions from being federally funded in the Pentagon.

“Amendment 3: Federal funds will be prohibited from establishing a position within the Pentagon for anything similar to Chief DEI Officers […] Why? The military is NOT a social engineering experiment wrapped in a uniform,” continued the Texas lawmaker.

Like DEI, critical race theory (CRT) has been deemed as divisive by lawmakers espousing rhetorics similar to Roy.

“Amendment 4: Stop divisive and racist indoctrination in our military schools […] Congress will prohibit the DoDEA from promoting Critical Race Theory to military kids […] Tax dollars should not be funding anti-American ideas for children,” stated the Texas representative.

The Texas lawmaker made interesting claims alleging that the U.S. is funding Iran in some form or fashion.

“Amendment 5: Stop directly or indirectly funding Iran and their proxies […] Why should YOUR tax dollars fund a foreign regime that hates our country? The Pentagon should not be paying to undermine our national security,” stated Roy.

Roy responded to the several claims against the Republican resistance to the bill, resulting in a hold-up on its passing.

“Conservatives are being accused of “politicizing” the NDAA, but it is Biden that politicized the military by pushing radical & strategically idiotic policies on it. Our military should reflect this country’s values & principles so that it is capable of carrying out its mission.”

The Texas representative concluded his statements by claiming the new NDAA to be a “victory” for U.S. citizens.

“This NDAA contains several victories for the American people & represents the success a unified GOP can have when we stand up & really fight for what we promised our constituents. We must stand strong and resist temptation to capitulate to the White House or Senate. Onward.”

Roy has been highly critical of the Biden administration. However, many speculate that bipartisanship is needed to help unite the country and pass meaningful laws.
