Garcia Once Again Criticizes Gov. Abbott's Immigration Policies

Texas Representative Sylvia Garcia (D) is once again criticizing Texas Governor Greg Abbott's (R) "inhumane" immigration policies.

In a statement, Rep. Garcia characterized Gov. Abbott's actions as "extreme", as well as listing him as a MAGA Republican.

"This is barbaric and inhumane - Governor Abbott's heartless anti-immigrant policies prey on vulnerable children seeking asylum in the United States. These extreme MAGA Republicans are following Trump’s extreme anti-immigrant agenda by putting the lives of migrant children at risk. I call on the Department of Justice to investigate these cruel actions toward migrants.

Many of the criticized tactics have been viewed as violent and dangerous.

"Razor wire-wrapped barrels in the river, pushing children back into the river, and denying water during extreme heat would be acts of deliberate, horrific torture. It would be beyond politics and cross a line into human rights violations."

The Texas lawmaker concluded her statement by alleging that the policy had its roots in prejudiced views.

"This Texas so-called border policy is a xenophobic and racist attempt to make it harder for migrants to legally seek asylum in the United States. Governor Abbott's actions do not reflect our values as Texans. We can't stand by as this happens. Migrants deserve to be treated with dignity and compassion, not by this relentless dehumanization," said Congresswoman Garcia.

After the tragic death of a three-year-old who was aboard a bus of migrants headed to Chicago, Illinois, Texas State Senator Roland Gutierrez (D) wrote a letter to Illinois Governor J. B. Pritzker (D), inviting him to see the “horrors” happening at the border.

“On Friday, a migrant toddler was found dead aboard a bus headed to Chicago. She died so Abbott can talk tough for right wing media. Today, I sent this letter to Governor Pritzker to see the horrors for himself. We need leaders who will stand against this barbaric system.”

Sen. Gutierrez reminded the governor that the policy of shipping migrants also extended to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R), who is currently facing criminal charges from Bexar County Sherriff Javier Salazar for allegedly luring migrants under false pretenses.

“For years many advocates have expressed deep concern over Gov. Abbott’s treatment of migrants in Texas. He is not alone in his cold-blooded policies. As I write, the DeSantis administration is under criminal investigation in Bexar County, Texas for its actions in transporting migrants across state lines. There seems to be no rock-bottom for their cruelty. Their hunger for pain and suffering knows no bounds.”
