Cornyn Details Meeting with Blinken Discussing Texas Issues

Texas Senator John Cornyn (R) detailed a recent meeting between him and Secretary of State Antony Blinken (D) discussing Texas issues.

The opioid crisis continues to concern American citizens and lawmakers. However, a debate has been raised regarding where the drugs come from, with some stating they come from the border, while others claim they come from ports of entry.

“Today I spoke with @SecBlinken to discuss urgent issues impacting Texans. We discussed Mexico’s ongoing violation of international water-sharing treaties, as well as the border crisis and the fentanyl epidemic raging across our nation.”

“The Rio Grande River is an integral water source for South Texas farmers and ranchers, and it’s imperative that Mexico follow through on its commitments to ensure the river’s water supply remains strong as required under our treaty,” said Sen. Cornyn.

In his talks with Blinken, Sen. Cornyn stated that the Secretary of State agreed to continue trying to get the integral water source released to Texans in need of it.

“The Secretary committed to continuing to work with Mexico to resolve this water issue and ensure Mexico releases the water it owes the Amistad and Falcon Reservoirs in Texas.”

Cornyn stated that the American people were suffering while cartels were benefitting from the “border crisis.”

“I also impressed upon him that the border crisis is harming Americans from coast to coast, with an even more significant burden being placed on Texas communities along the border while enriching criminal cartels.”

“I urged him to do more to help address this humanitarian and public safety crisis as Secretary of State,” said Sen. Cornyn.

Fentanyl continues to be the number one drug that lawmakers are concerned about. Furthermore, the drug has caused several deaths in America.

“We also discussed the fentanyl overdose epidemic and the importance of a global approach to combat the scourge of synthetic opioids, which are stealing the lives of our children and loved ones.”

Cornyn concluded his statements by expressing his desire for Blinken to work with him on pressing Texas issues.

“It is my hope that Sec. Blinken will work with me to these important issues. I am willing to work with anyone on commonsense policies that will actually secure our border, protect Americans from fentanyl overdoses, and ensure Texas receives the resources it is due.”
