In the upcoming election, Democrats are looking to expand their influence in the political map. In Texas, Rep. Colin Allred (D) is challenging Senator Ted Cruz (R), hoping to unseat the Republican stalwart. However, Cruz is clowning Allred's Harris County audience for not drawing a larger crowd.
Earlier this month, Rep. Allred made a campaign stop in Harris County to discuss his upcoming race against Senator Cruz. Sharing pictures on social media, Allred commented that “folks in Harris County deserve a Senator who will actually put in the work on the issues that matter, not just podcast 3 times a week.”
“We’ll make sure Ted Cruz will be able to podcast full time,” he concluded.
The campaign stop has been the subject of scrutiny however as pictures indicate that Allred did not have a big crowd for his event. Pointing this out, Cruz responded to this with “7 people in Harris County,” adding laughing emojis.
In recent weeks, Cruz has highlighted the border crisis, and political pundits have questioned by Allred has not addressed the issue.
Allred is currently going on his “listening tour,” which serves as an introduction to Texans across the country as the right candidate to unseat Cruz. He argues that Cruz has failed to show up for Texans, and his goal is to remind voters of the clear choice.
In a statement to ABC News, a spokesperson for Cruz commented that Cruz “will continue doing what he does best – working and delivering results for over 30 million Texans.”
In 2018, Cruz defeated Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D), who was largely seen as a rising star in the Democratic party.
