Texas Reps Express Celebration of Labor Day

Several Texas representatives across the state took to social media to express their celebration of the worker-focused holiday, Labor Day.

Texas Congressman Greg Casar (D) celebrated the holiday by highlighting the workers' efforts in fighting for their rights.

“Happy Labor Day, #TX35! Today is our chance to celebrate the legacy and achievements of workers who fought for dignity and equality, fair pay, and safe job sites. When American workers do better, we all do better.”

On a similar note, Texas Representative Vicente Gonzalez (D) also expressed his appreciation for the workers who fought for their rights.

“On #LaborDay, we honor the American workforce and continue the fight to ensure working class folks receive the protections, fair wages, and dignity they deserve.”

There are several strikes going on at the moment, including a Writer’s and Actor’s strike. Texas Representative Veronica Escobar (D) shared her appreciation for the protection of workers’ rights.

“As workers fight to raise wages and improve working conditions across our country, support for unions is near all time highs. On this Labor Day, I’m proud to stand with a new generation of workers as they exercise their collective strength and make their voices heard.”

Texas Representative Joaquin Castro (D) took the workers’ fight personally, as he stated his commitment to fight for workers, especially against artificial intelligence (AI).

“Happy Labor Day! Today, I was proud to join Texas labor organizers to celebrate the working people who make Texas strong. I’m glad to support the #PROAct  — and I’m committed to protecting good jobs in the face of rising AI and the challenges of the future.”

In a series of tweets, Texas Representative Sylvia Garcia (D) discussed the history of Labor Day.

“Happy #LaborDay ! Today we celebrate American workers & the proud history of the labor movement. America's workforce is the backbone of our economy & our prosperity.”

“Happy Labor Day! Workers keep America and our district going and I’m proud to support them.”

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D) opted to highlight the family aspect behind the holiday.

“Happy Labor Day to all of America’s working men and women and working families!”

Texas State Senator Roland Gutierrez (D) has been spending much of his time campaigning against Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R). However, he took time to express his commitment to fighting for workers and their rights.

“I will always fight alongside organized labor to ensure their right to collectively bargain for better wages, working conditions, and safety standards. Texas workers and labor are the backbone of our economy. Today, we honor you. #LaborDay

Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick (R) opted for a simple message.

“Happy Labor Day, y’all!”

However, Texas Representative Wesley Hunt (R) gave a detailed history of Labor Day.

“In 1894, Labor Day became an official federal holiday in the United States, following a period of labor unrest and the infamous Pullman Strike. President Grover Cleveland declared the first Monday in September as Labor Day, a day to recognize and honor working class Americans who keep our economic engine running.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) who has been occupied with Operation Lone Star and its criticisms, made sure to thank the workers of Texas.

“Wishing all Texans a safe and relaxing Labor Day. Thanks to your hard work, Texas is the best state in the nation for job creators and job seekers alike.”

In other news, President Joe Biden (D) is scheduled to award the Medal of Honor to Vietnam War Army veteran Larry Taylor.
