Garcia Highlights House Democrats’ Fight to Lower Drug Costs

Texas Representative Sylvia Garcia (D) took to the House floor to highlight House Democrats’ fight to lower drug costs.

"Affordable health care for seniors is my top priority @HouseDemocrats and the Biden Administration are working hard to negotiate drug prices for 623,000 seniors in Texas."

“Ensuring that everyone has access to high quality and affordable healthcare is the top priority for me,” said Rep. Garcia.

The Texas lawmaker continued, expressing her approval for the new drug prices.

“That’s why together with House Democrats we have fought tirelessly in Congress to bring down healthcare and prescription drug costs. Finally now, Medicare can negotiate lower prescription drug costs for seniors and other beneficiaries which will take effect in 2026.”

Multiple important drugs were selected in the first batch of negotiations including Eliquis, Jardiance, Xarelto, Januvia, Farxiga, Entresto, Enrebel, Imbruvica, Stelara and Fiasp.

“I’m excited that the first ten Medicare part D drugs have been selected for the Medicare price negotiation,” said Rep. Garcia.

The Texas lawmaker stated how the bill would save money for several Americans. Furthermore, she argued that the bill was open for various demographics.

“In my home state of Texas 623,000 seniors will save money thanks to these negotiations. We’re building the healthcare system that prioritizes the wellbeing of all Americans, regardless of their age, income or background. Because, when it comes to healthcare, we’re all in this together. We are putting seniors over profits. We are putting people over politics.”

In other news, after much controversy, U.S. District Judge David Ezra ruled that the floating marine barriers in Eagle Pass, Texas must be removed.

“Governor Abbott announced that he was not 'asking for permission' for Operation Lone Star, the anti-immigration program under which Texas constructed the floating barrier,” said Judge Ezra.

“Unfortunately for Texas, permission is exactly what federal law requires before installing obstructions in the nation's navigable waters.”

The ruling is the latest in a back and forth between those against Operation Lone Star and the Abbott administration.
