Crenshaw Critiques Biden on Border

Texas Representative Dan Crenshaw (R) lambasted President Joe Biden (D) for his perceived lack of action on the border.

In a tweet, Rep. Crenshaw made his feelings clear about Biden and Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas’s handling of the thousands of migrant workers entering the border.

“17,500 illegal immigrants in one week. That’s over 2,000 a day. Over 100 every hour. And yet not a peep from @POTUS or @SecMayorkas.”

Rep. Crenshaw has repeatedly questioned the president's handling of border security. That said, immigration numbers are decreasing, but the numbers are still much higher than usual.

According to the CBP, "in October 2023, the U.S. Border Patrol recorded 188,778 encounters between ports of entry along the southwest border, a decrease of 14% from September 2023. CBP’s total encounters along the southwest border in October were 240,988, a decrease of 11% from September 2023."

Recently, Biden has seemingly expressed more focus on inflation and the economy more than he has on border security. However, earlier in the year, the president announced the construction of a new border wall.

Biden announced that his administration would allow an allowance for border wall construction in South Texas. The administration waived 26 federal laws, in order to approve the measure.

In a statement, Mayorkas emphasized why the administration needed to input the new border wall.

“There is presently an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border of the United States in order to prevent unlawful entries into the United States in the project areas,” said Mayorkas.

The project doesn’t come without its various criticisms and potential drawbacks. Many critics have discussed the possible environmental impacts the wall could have.

There has been a bipartisan push to stop the large influx of migrant workers entering the country. Many workers are fleeing dangerous situations in their home countries. However, some lawmakers are concerned about some of the nefarious cartels that smuggle drugs.
