Republicans continue to sound the alarm on illegal immigration, warning that President Joe Biden (D) has not properly addressed the issue. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) highlighted the concern in a CNN town hall in Iowa, reiterating that he would declare it a “national emergency” on day one of his presidency. Texas Rep. Beth Van Duyne (R) is further criticizing the president, calling him “a logistics partner for the drug cartels.”
The Republican primary candidates have been vocal about the president’s handling of the border, but the likes of President Donald Trump (R) and Governor DeSantis have shared their hardline stance on curbing illegal immigration.
During a townhall meeting in Iowa, which was moderated by CNN, Governor DeSantis reaffirmed his stance on “sending the military to the southern border.”
Rep. Van Duyne, who’s been vocal on her disapproval of President Biden’s handling of the southern border, had some choice words for the president during an interview with OAN.
Sharing the interview segment on social media, Rep. Van Duyne called President Biden “a logistics partner for the drug cartels.”
“Make no mistake, the left is helping millions of illegal immigrants enter our country in the expectation they will eventually become a vast new source of Democrat votes in the future,” Rep. Van Duyne added.
The comments come at a time where the president appears to have changed his stance on the matter.
The Biden administration notified congressional lawmakers that it would be willing to support a new border authority to expel migrants without asylum screenings in addition to an expansion of immigration detention and deportations if Republicans support more aid for Ukraine.
Senate Democrats were informed that the White House would support these measures as part of negotiations over the president’s emergency funding request.
