Newsom Rips Attempt to Keep Trump Off Ballot

California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) criticized attempts to keep former President Donald Trump off the California 2024 primary ballot.

“There is no doubt that Donald Trump is a threat to our liberties and even to our democracy, but in California, we defeat candidates at the polls. Everything else is a political distraction,” said Gov. Newsom.

On Dec. 19, the Colorado Supreme Court voted to remove Trump from the state's 2024 primary election ballot for his role in the Jan. 6 insurrection. The vote has been seen as highly controversial and many have expressed their frustration with the ruling.

The 2021 insurrection resulted in the death of an officer and several injuries to other officers. Many lawmakers have claimed that Trump’s denial of the results of the 2020 presidential election caused the violent acts at the Capitol.

The former president, along with his allies, have faced lethal troubles ever since charges were brought against them for their alleged roles in the Capitol riots.

The defendants are accused of creating a “criminal racketeering” enterprise to overturn the results of the election in the state of Georgia.

Recently, former New York City Mayor and lawyer to Trump, Rudy Giuliani, was ordered to pay $148 million to two Georgia election workers. Giuliani was accused of defamation by the two workers, Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss.

The former mayor was convicted of making false statements that Freeman and Moss had tampered with votes by stuffing ballots.

Furthermore, Giuliani claimed that the two workers used a USB drive in an attempt to rig the 2020 presidential election. The drive that Giuliani claimed to see turned out to be a mint.

“Today is a good day. A jury stood witness to what Rudy Giuliani did to me and my daughter and held him accountable, and for that I’m thankful. Today is not the end of the road. We still have work to do,” said Freeman as she stood outside the courthouse.
