Chicago Mayor Tears Into Abbott Busing More Migrants

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson released a statement detailing Texas Governor Greg Abbott's busing of more migrants from the U.S.-Mexico border to Chicago.

According to the mayor, several migrants arrived in the Illinois city after 1 a.m. from San Antonio, TX. The 350 migrants were then put on buses and taken to various Chicago suburbs. Johnson continued, stating that the asylum seekers were left to navigate the suburbs without any guidance or specific place to go.

One of the Chicago lawmaker's main qualms with Gov. Abbott's antics was the fact that taxpayers had to pay for the flights which were on private planes.

For his part, Gov. Abbott has not backed down from his controversial tactic. Despite some claiming that his busing is a political and inhumane stunt, the Texas governor released the following statement.

“Texas has transported over 95,000 migrants to sanctuary cities. Sanctuary cities like NYC & Chicago have seen only a FRACTION of what overwhelmed Texas border towns face daily. We will continue our transportation mission until Biden reverses course on his open border policies,” tweeted Gov. Abbott.

In December, the Texas governor sent a plane full of migrants to Chicago.

The plane left El Paso on Tuesday and contained 120 migrants who were transported from the U.S.-Mexico border. The move is part of Gov. Abbott's much-talked-about program, Operation Lone Star.

Operation Lone Star has faced much pushback for the danger it poses to migrants. Furthermore, many of the tactics employed by the program have faced legal challenges.

After the public scrutinized the governor's use of razor wire at the border, President Joe Biden (D) ordered the razor wire be cut down. However, Gov. Abbott recently challenged the ruling.

The Republican lawmaker released a statement showing that federal courts granted his appeal against the Biden administration's cutting of razor wire at the U.S.-Mexico border.

In a tweet, Gov. Abbott shared the Fifth Circuit court's ruling on the appeal, as well as his future plans to resist the Biden administration's attempts at handling the border crisis and deterring fatalities at the border.

"The Fifth Circuit ordered the Biden Admin to stop cutting Texas’ razor wire pending our appeal of its initial ruling. AG Paxton and I will hold Biden and Mayorkas accountable for attacking Texas’ sovereign authority and their attempts to obstruct our border security efforts," said Gov. Abbott.
