Paxton Recognizes Human Traffic Awareness Day

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) recognized Human Traffic Awareness Day while giving a speech at the Texas Capitol. The attorney general was accompanied by the Texas Human Trafficking Prevention Task Force and Coordinating Council.

In a statement, Rep. Paxton addressed how his office has fought against human trafficking.

“My office has worked tirelessly to bring human traffickers to justice. Through our collaboration with law enforcement partners and community organizations fighting to end this form of modern-day slavery, we have made Texas a safer place,” said Attorney General Paxton.

The attorney general continued his statement by celebrating the Texas Human Trafficking Prevention Task Force.

“As the head of the Texas Human Trafficking Prevention Task Force, I am proud of our accomplishments putting criminals behind bars and bringing peace to victims. I want to thank the talented and dedicated workforce on our Criminal Justice teams under the leadership of Deputy Attorney General for Criminal Justice Josh Reno.”

Recently, Texas Representative Beth Van Duyne (R) took the time to highlight the human trafficking issues in the U.S. Furthermore, the congresswoman's message was timely since January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month.

“Human trafficking is a form of modern slavery. With many women having been trafficked into our country by cartels, this is an issue facing communities across our country. During National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, I encourage you to take a moment to visit the Human Trafficking Hotline: https://humantraffickinghotline.org/en/human-trafficking,” tweeted Rep. Van Duyne.

According to the hotline, “Human trafficking is the business of stealing freedom for profit. In some cases, traffickers trick, defraud or physically force victims into providing commercial sex.”

People of all different demographics can be forced into human slavery under which they are physically and emotionally abused and controlled by terrible traffickers.

The cruel crime is a multi-billion dollar industry that binds 24.9 million people around the world. Furthermore, over 10,000 victims are trafficked in the U.S.

In her attack on the issue, Rep. Van Duyne pointed to the human traffickers who use the border to commit their crimes. Both the border and human trafficking are quite sensitive issues, yet the congresswoman was not afraid to address them both.
