Texas Lawmakers Launch Criticisms Against Abbott After Migrants' Death at Border

Texas lawmakers launched strong criticisms against Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) for his role in the atrocity in Eagle Pass, TX, that resulted in the deaths of 3 migrants, including 2 children.

Texas Representative Sylvia Garcia (D) tore into Gov. Abbott in a statement she shared on social media.

“I am disgusted to learn that a mother and her two children have needlessly died because of @GovAbbott’s operation lone star. Make no mistake Governor Abbott is responsible for these deaths,“ tweeted Rep. Garcia.

“The murderous reign of Abbott and Operation Lone Star must come to an end. I am horrified and disgusted at the tragedy that took place last night in the waters of the Rio Grande near Shelby Park in Eagle Pass. I am livid and I want justice for this family.”

The congresswoman continued, “Federal officers from the United States Border Patrol were physically prevented from saving this family by Texas law enforcement officials acting under the direct orders of Abbott. They were barred from accessing a boat ramp needed to enter the river, and it appears no earnest attempt was made by state officials to prevent the loss of human life.”

“Make no mistake, a mother and her babies drowned because of an evil man with a lust for blood, Greg Abbott. Their deaths were directly caused by his latest political stunt to maim and murder human beings, obstruct federal officials, and create a crisis for camera.”

The Texas representative concluded her statements by requesting that the governor be formally looked into for his actions at the border.

“I urge Chairman Mark Green and Ranking Member Bennie Thompson to subpoena Abbott and his deputies before their Committee to answer for obstructing of federal law enforcement officers and his shallow disregard of human lives.”

Texas Representative Vicente Gonzalez (D) shared similar statements to Rep. Escobar.

“How many lives will it take for Governor Abbott to stop his political games? The Governor continues his racist mission of death and destruction along the Southern Border. This must end,” said the congressman.

The blowback from the recent tragedy at Eagle Pass has only gotten worse and stronger over the last few days. The Abbott administration seems to be in for a major fight as several Americans have expressed their horror at the most recent migrants' deaths.

The governor has been facing several challenges from different lawmakers. Recently, Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) shared his statement regarding New York Mayor Eric Adams’s (D) announcement that he has filed a lawsuit against the bus companies that the governor used to send migrants to New York.

“This lawsuit is baseless and deserves to be sanctioned. It's clear that Mayor Adams knows nothing about the Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution, or about the constitutional right to travel that has been recognized by the U.S. Supreme Court,” wrote Gov. Abbott in the statement.
