Trump Supports Governor Abbott and Texas

Republican lawmakers from across the country are extending their support to Texas’ efforts to curb illegal immigration. This week, the Supreme Court ruled that Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) immediately needed to remove razor wire he had installed at the border. Governor Abbott has announced that he will not be removing the razor wire, and President Donald Trump (R) has expressed his support for Governor Abbott and Texas' efforts.

Texas and the federal government have engaged in a standoff this year as the state also took control of Shelby Park in Eagle Pass, Texas, citing a massive influx of illegal immigration.

After news broke that the Supreme Court was ordering the governor to remove razor wire from the border, Republicans en masse have shared their support for the governor and his effort.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) supports Governor Abbotts’ efforts, arguing that “Texas is trying to enforce our laws and uphold our sovereignty while the federal government is disregarding the law and ignoring its responsibility to protect our borders,” calling this “an upside down world.”

President Trump also weighed in on the situation, releasing a statement that blames President Joe Biden (D) over the growing issues with the border.

“Joe Biden has surrendered our Border, and is aiding and abetting a massive invasion of millions of illegal Migrants into the United States,” President Trump wrote, adding that “instead of fighting to protect our County from this onslaught, Biden is, unbelievably, fighting to tie the hands of Governor Abbott and the State of Texas, so that the invasion continues unchecked.”

He further expressed that “in the face of this National Security, Public Safety, and Public Health Catastrophe, Texas has rightly invoked the Invasion Clause of the Constitution, and must be given full support to repel the Invasion.”

Subsequently, 25 states have now announced that they stand in solidarity with Texas, and this includes Florida, Iowa, Arkansas, North Dakota, Virginia, New Hampshire, and South Carolina among others.
