Crenshaw Urges UN not to ‘Fund Terrorists’

Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R) has taken to social media to chide the United Nations. Specifically, Rep. Crenshaw has criticized the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) after the UN showed its support for a ceasefire in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. Responding to the UN’s announcement on social media, Rep. Crenshaw urged them not to “fund terrorists.”

The war between Israel and Hamas has further divided the country as Democrats have called for a ceasefire, and Republicans have called on Hamas to release the hostages that were taken captive on October 7th, 2023.

On social media, the UN shared that “in conflict, civilians always pay the highest price” while citing that “war is not the answer.”

Rep. Crenshaw responded to the social media post, showing a disconnect between President Joe Biden (D)and President Donald Trump (R) in their respective relationships with the UN.

“In 2018, Trump suspended funding the UN relief agency due to allegations its schools support Hamas teachings,” he said, adding that “unfortunately, Biden restored the funding after taking office in 2021.”

“Now we learn at least 12 UNRWA are believed to be involved in the Oct. 7 attack on Israel and Israeli intelligence assesses roughly 10% of all UNRWA employees in Gaza have ties to terror organizations,” he further commented, calling it “unacceptable.”

Sharing an Associated Press article notifying that the United States had halted funding to the UN, Rep. Crenshaw commented that “thankfully, we have halted our donations to the UNRWA while this is investigation, but we should never send money to organizations with suspected ties to terrorists.”

Republicans and Democrats have been on opposing sides of the arguments, but Democrats have also faced infighting on the subject. Florida Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D) voted in favor of censuring Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D) over comments she made regarding the war.
