Abbott Briefs Governors on Border Security Enhancements

Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) briefed 13 other Republican governors, over the weekend, on the state’s Operation Lonestar and the developing border security enhancements at Eagle Pass. The briefing took place over the weekend, and there was also a press conference to address President Joe Biden’s (D) “reckless open border policies.”

Governor Abbott, who’s been a vocal critic of President Biden’s approach to illegal immigration, commented that the Republican governor were going “to send a loud and clear message that we are banding together to fight to ensure that we will be able to maintain our constitutional guarantee that states will be able to defend against any type of imminent danger.”

The 13 governors that joined Governor Abbott are:

Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R), Georgia Governor Brian Kemp (R), Idaho Governor Brad Little (R), Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb (R), Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds (R), Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry (R), Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves (R), Missouri Governor Mike Parson (R), Montana Governor Greg Gianforte (R), Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen (R), New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu (R), South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem (R), Tennessee Governor Bill Lee (R), and Utah Governor Spencer Cox (R).

Although Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) did not attend the briefing, he has been a strong supporter of Governor Abbott’s approach, also taking controversial measures to send migrants into blue states. Just last week, Governor DeSantis committed to send additional National Guard troop to Texas. Other governors are also debating sending additional National Guard troops.

“A state can defend itself and its citizens to protect their safety from the imminent danger that we are facing – and from an invasion from millions of people coming from across the globe into our country, who are unaccounted for whatsoever,” Governor Abbott commented.

Texas Rep. Joaquin Castro (D) has criticized the governor’s efforts, informing that a U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility had been evacuated after receiving threats.
