Garcia Calls for House to Pass Ukraine Funding Bill

On the two year anniversary of Russia’s brutal and heinous attack on Ukraine, Texas Representative Sylvia Garcia (D) called for the House to pass the the Senate’s Ukraine funding bill.

“Today marks 2 years since Russia began their illegal invasion of Ukraine. The longer we delay sending aid to Ukraine, the more powerful Putin becomes.I’m proud to stand with the @UkraineCaucus to keep fighting for peace in Ukraine,” said Rep. Garcia.

Ukraine is currently defending its land from a Russian attack led by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. The country has pushed back several of Putin’s offensives and has killed several thousands of his troops, but they still need help as the current phase of the war requires more military power.

Recently, the Senate passed a bill that included $60 billion to aid Ukraine in fighting against Russia. $14 billion would go to rearming, and $15 billion would go to training and intelligence sharing. Another $8 billion would go to assisting Ukraine’s government continue their daily operations. However, it’s worth noting that at least a third of the money would go to American soil. That allocated money would go to modernizing and updating the U.S. military.

The bill also includes funding for Israel. Most of the money would go to the Israeli military to help them bolster their defense systems and military. Another portion of the money would go to helping the U.S. military in their endeavors in the region. Lastly, some of the money would go to providing humanitarian aid to those who are in Gaza.

The bill proposes a large sum of $8 billion to fight against Chinese interests and sends money to Taiwan to establish defense forces against the CCP.

One part of the bill that is not mentioned as much is the $400 million to protect places of worship and protect them from hate crimes. This part of the bill is timely as we've seen churches be targeted by various attackers.

On February 11, a female shooter entered Lakewood Church in Houston and opened fire on an unarmed crowd worshipping in a Sunday service. In the attack, the assailant brought her 7-year-old little boy.

Three people were shot as a result of the woman’s attack. The shooter was killed by Lakewood security. A 57-year-old man was shot in the leg and later released from the hospital. The 7-year-old boy was sadly shot in the gunfire and had to have part of his frontal lobe removed. He is currently still in the hospital.

The gunwoman had a history of mental illness and prior arrests. Many have called into question why she was allowed to legally own a gun.

The shooter's weapon was covered in anti-Semitic rhetoric and images. Her family believes that the attack was partially related to a dispute between the shooter and her ex-husband's family who have Jewish members.
