Escobar Mourns Loss After Tragic Border Patrol Crash

Texas Representative Veronica Escobar (D) shared a brief statement on social media mourning the loss of two National Guard soldiers and a Border Patrol agent.

“Thinking of the two National Guard aviators and the Border Patrol agent who were in the fatal helicopter crash. I'm also praying for the speedy recovery of their injured crew chief. My condolences go out to their families, and we will humbly honor their sacrifice in perpetuity,” tweeted Rep. Escobar.

The two National Guard members were recently identified as 28-year-old Casey Frankoski and 30-year-old John Grassia, both service members were from upstate New York. The Border Patrol agent’s name was Chris Luna.

The helicopter was patrolling the U.S.-Mexico border before it crashed killing three men and injuring another soldier. As of now, it is unclear what caused the tragic crash.

The New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association Board of Directors released a statement regarding the fatal crash.

“Trooper Grassia, who was dedicated to serving and protecting not only the citizens of New York State but also the citizens of the entire United States, will be remembered for his ultimate sacrifice,” said the statement.

According to Grassia’s family, the serviceman had desired to serve as a pilot since he was 7 years old. He joined the military shortly after his 18th birthday and was inspired by his grandfathers who served in the military.

The border has remained a serious issue for those involved. Many lawmakers have called to shut down the border, yet the suggestions and attempts to pass legislation regarding the border have been stifled by both Republicans and Democrats.

Many deaths have taken place at the U.S.-Mexico border as many migrants try to cross from Mexico into the U.S. and have faced tough conditions including controversial and inhumane marine barriers in the Rio Grande placed there by Governor Greg Abbott (R).
