Cruz Campaign Announces 'Democrats for Cruz' Coalition

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) released a video in congruence with the launch of a new coalition for his campaign, “Democrats for Cruz.” The video features Javier Palomarez, the President and CEO of the U.S. Hispanic Business Council.

Palomarez, a member of the Democratic pro-Cruz coalition, commended Sen. Cruz’s efforts to reach across the aisle.

“I happen to know a different Ted Cruz. The Ted Cruz that never, never gets mentioned in our national media. The Ted Cruz that collaborated with me, a known and lifelong Democrat; that’s the Ted Cruz that the media never talks about,” said Palomarez.

He also mentioned that the Lone Star State has a special ability to “get things done” compared to the nation’s capital.

“I’m proud that in our community and certainly here in Texas, we know how to work across the aisle to get the right thing done,” said Palomarez. Addressing Sen. Cruz he said, “Honestly, I commend you and thank you for the work that you’ve done throughout your career across the aisle.”

The Texas Senator responded with candor.

“There are issues in Washington where the partisan divide is absolutely real. But what doesn’t always get as much attention is there’s also a lot of bipartisan cooperation … There’s a difference between Texas and Washington. I think in Texas, Republicans and Democrats can and do work together, work together very well,” said Sen. Cruz.

The Cruz campaign announced that the new coalition is “proud to have the support of local sheriffs, former and current elected officials, small business owners, ranchers, students, oil and gas workers, parents, and more.”

Sen. Cruz will face Representative Colin Allred (D-TX) in the upcoming general election for his seat in the upper chamber.

Rep. Allred announced his candidacy for Senate in May of 2023. The representative’s main Democratic challenger was current State Senator Roland Gutierrez (D). Sen. Gutierrez was known for his strong rhetoric advocating for stricter gun legislation. Many thought the state senator would win. However, Allred pulled away with the race and did not have to endure a runoff.

Cruz has faced other hotly touted Democratic competition in the past. One example would be his 2018 matchup with Beto O’Rourke.
