Cruz Questions 'Deeply Concerning' Biden Mangi Nomination

President Joe Biden (D) has nominated Adeel Mangi to be a judge for the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in Texas. The nomination has been met with criticism from conservatives, who argue that Mangi has expressed controversial views that should bar him from the role. Responding to Biden's nomination of Mangi, Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R) finds the nomination troubling and “deeply concerning.”

Mangi has been accused of having ties to an anti-Israel think tank that hosted terrorists on the anniversary of September 11. He has also had ties to a group that has called cop killers “freedom fighters.”

Last month, five police unions that represent 28,000 officers stood up in protest, calling on senators to oppose Mangi’s nomination for the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.

Taking to social media to push back against the nomination, Senator Cruz said that it is “deeply concerning that Biden would give this man a lifetime appointment.”

“Mangi served as an advisory board member to a group that labeled people who killed cops as ‘freedom fighters,’” Senator Cruz said, questioning, “how can the heroes of law enforcement be confident that he would treat them fairly if their case came before him?”

In February, the National Sheriffs’ Association released a statement against Mangi, saying that “the fact that Mr. Mangi, as an Advisory Board member, aligns himself with an organization advocating for the release of convicted cop-killers is seriously disturbing.” The National Sheriffs’ Association goes on to say that Mangi’s connection with the Alliance of Families for Justice “raises concerns about a potential bias against victims and law enforcement.”

A date for the confirmation vote for Mangi has not yet been set.

Senator Cruz is currently running a reelection campaign against Democrat Collin Allred, who hopes to help Democrats expand their influence in the Lone Star state.
