Abbott Praises Operation Lone Star for Securing Border

Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) continues to highlight the successes of Operation Lone Star. Although the state has received pushback from the Biden Administration, Governor Abbott maintains that the efforts will continue to curb illegal immigration.

This week, the governor’s office announced that Texas has surged the number of soldiers and resources to boost border security efforts in El Paso. Governor Abbott, The Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Texas National Guard have partnered to curb illegal immigration, arguing that President Joe Biden (D) has not done enough to address the concern.

Their efforts to “stop the smuggling of drugs, weapons, and people into Texas; and prevent, detect, and interdict transnational criminal activity between ports of entry” have resulted in numerous apprehensions and criminal arrests. Specifically, “the multi-agency effort has led to over 506,500 illegal immigrant apprehensions and more than 41,200 criminal arrests, with more than 36,700 felony charges.”

Issues concerning the border have catapulted to the top of voters’ priorities. Just this week, an Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll indicated that Democratic voters are disappointed in the president’s handling of the border, showing that 45% approve of his response to border security.

With President Donald Trump (R) positioning himself as the candidate that will respond to the growing concerns, Democrats have been on the offensive.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R) and Governor Abbott met this week to discuss "the need to secure the border and to hold President Biden accountable for his disastrous policies." The governor shared photos of the meeting on social media, assuring his followers that until President Biden takes action, "Texas will continue to hold the line."

He also commented on the Senate's effort to impeach Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas. The governor accused Secretary Mayorkas of having "done more damage to American than any other Cabinet Secretary in our nation's history."
