Texas Republicans Respond to Trump's Guilty Verdict

The verdict is out, and President Donald Trump (R) has been found guilty on all 34 federal charges related to his hush money case. While President Trump is expected to appeal the ruling, Texas Republicans are responding with criticism over the nature of the trial.

Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R) called the verdict "a dark day for America" as well as calling the trial both "a sham" and "nothing more than political persecution."

"The only reason they prosecuted Donald Trump is because Democrats are terrified that he will win reelection," Senator Cruz said in a statement released on social media. "This disgraceful decision is legally baseless and should be overturned promptly on appeal."

Senator Cruz, a 2016 presidential election political rival turned supporter, further commented that "any judge with a modicum of integrity would recognize that this entire trial has been utterly fraudulent."

Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) also weighed in on the verdict, calling the trial "a sham show" that was hosted by a "Kangaroo Court."

Americans deserve better than a sitting U.S. President weaponizing our justice system against a political opponent - all to win an election."

Texas Rep. Chip Roy (R) also shared words of support for President Trump, commenting that "the trial in New York against former President Trump makes a mockery of the rule of law."

"I am not sure why a single federal dollar is going to NYC right now... for anything at all. (Setting aside why we just gave the FBI a new headquarters)," he wrote on social media.

After the verdict was announced, President Trump spoke to reporters, noting that "the real verdict is going to be November 5th." "This was a disgrace. This was a rigged trial by a conflicted Judge who was corrupt... we'll keep fighting. We'll fight to the end, and we'll win."
