Rep. Chip Roy/ Texas Politics
15 U.S. Representatives from the state of Texas alongside Senator Ted Cruz (R) appear on a list provided by a Ukrainian NGO – the Data Journalism Agency – named, “From Trumpists to Communists. The Forces in the U.S. impeding aid to Ukraine and how they do it.”
Investigative journalist Laura Loomer was one of the first to bring this list to light.
Some have described this data collection as a “kill list” or “a list of enemies,” something the organization denies.
“This is a Statement of Facts … The table of research subjects, which has generated the most controversy, is neither a ‘list of enemies of Ukraine’ nor a ‘kill list,’ as it has been labeled in numerous posts circulating on platform X. These data were collected and published solely to demonstrate the evidence supporting the theses presented in the article. The article itself is not an accusation but a study of the political and media context that influences government decisions regarding further support for Ukraine in the Russian-Ukrainian war … We value and respect freedom of speech, which is essential for a democratic society.”
Alongside names and news companies such as former President Donald Trump (R), the Daily Wire, One American News Network (OANN), Jordan Peterson, Charles Koch, and Vivek Ramaswamy, the 15 U.S. Representatives from the state of Texas are all Republicans. They’re on the list presumably sharing rhetoric against providing aid to Ukraine at differing times.
Representatives Troy Nehls, Brian Babin, Roger Williams, August Pfluger, Pat Fallon, Ronny Jackson, Michael Cloud, Monica De La Cruz, Wesley Hunt, Chip Roy, Keith Self, Beth Van Duyne, Jodey Arrington, Morgan Luttrell, and Randy Weber appear on the list.
Representative Matt Gaetz (R) of Florida appears on the list as well.
The Ukrainian NGO wrote this of Rep Gaetz: “In February 2023, a group of 10 Republicans led by U.S. House member Matt Gaetz initiated the Ukraine Fatigue Resolution, advocating for the cessation of military and financial aid to Ukraine. Mr. Gaetz has been a vocal critic of aid to Ukraine. He, along with co-sponsors like Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, Thomas Massie (Kentucky), and Barry Moore (Alabama), in November 2022, pushed for a stronger audit of funds the U.S. provides to Ukraine.”
Some politicians such as Senate hopeful Kari Lake (R-AZ) have worn being on the list as a badge of honor.
