Roy Claims 'Americans Support Deportations'

The southern border is a pressing matter for lawmakers, and Texas Rep. Chip Roy (R) is calling out Republicans for 'hiding' on the issue. This week, while discussing the need to address illegal immigrants who have killed American citizens, the Texas Republican called on Republicans to back President Donald Trump (R). Rep. Roy says he's not alone in supporting deportations as "Americans support deportations" as well.

During an interview on Fox News, Rep. Roy, who's not shy of pointing the finger at his own party, unleaded on Republicans for not being stronger in both support President Trump and his efforts for deportations.

"I believe President Trump wants to do that. I believe that President Trump has demonstrated that he would do that, but I think that Congress needs a kick in the rear end to actually step up and do the job," he said to Laura Ingraham during an appearance on the Ingraham Angle.

"Why are there only 104 Republican co-sponsors of my Save Act? Why aren't every Republican shouting at the rooftops that Rachel Morin got killed, that Laken Riley got killed that Lizbeth Medina in Texas got killed?" he questioned. The SAVE Act, introduced earlier this year, aims to "thwart Democrat efforts to cement one-party rule by upholding and strengthening current law that permits only U.S. citizens to vote in Federal elections" according to a press release from Rep. Roy.

He further commented that Republicans are not backing his legislation "because Republicans will say 'we don't have 60 in the Senate,' and they'll start hiding. Don't let Republicans hide. We need to back up the president and get the job done."

Sharing the interview segment on social media, Rep. Roy claims that "62% of Americans support deportations" and that "more support stronger border security." Instead of trying to "run away from the fight," the Texas lawmakers urges Republicans to "help President Trump... secure the border."
