Texas Representatives in U.S. House React to Trump Assassination Attempt

U.S. Representatives from the state of Texas shared their reactions to the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump’s (R) life. On Saturday a gunman shot and nearly killed him in Butler, Pennsylvania. President Trump’s right ear was pierced by a bullet, millimeters from an even more catastrophic event. Sadly, an audience member was killed, and two spectators were critically injured. Secret Service killed the gunman.

House Party Leaders

“The assassination attempt of President Trump yesterday was a horrific act of political violence. The American people need answers and the House is committed to ensuring a thorough investigation is conducted,” said Speaker Johnson.

“My thoughts and prayers are with former President Trump. I am thankful for the decisive law enforcement response. America is a democracy. Political violence of any kind is never acceptable," said Leader Jeffries.

Below are the reactions of both (but not all) Republicans and Democrats from the state of Texas following the attempted assassination of President Trump.

Republicans

"I’ve been shot at in combat before and the courage displayed by President Trump during yesterday’s assassination attempt is nothing short of remarkable. At the Republican National Convention, WE THE PEOPLE will officially choose our fighter! I’m proud to be a part of this historic week as we stand united behind President Trump. Mr. President you are definition of Courage Under Fire. You are our Man in the Arena," said Rep. Hunt.

"President Trump is wounded but defiant just like America. We will prevail to Make America Great Again. Join me in praying for President Trump," said Rep. Babin.

"President Trump made his protectors stop. He then took the moment to stand right back up. In that moment of courage & clarity - he spoke for all of America," said Rep. Roy.

Democrats

"My thoughts and prayers are with former President Donald Trump, his family, and those who attended the rally. Political violence has no place in our country. Thank you to Secret Service, law enforcement personnel and first responders for their work during this difficult time," said Rep. Cuellar.

"My thoughts are with Mr. Trump as he recovers. My deepest appreciation is extended to law enforcement for their selfless & decisive action Poltical [sic] violence in all forms must be condemned," said Rep. Crockett.

"Violence of any kind has no place in our democracy, and I condemn this horrific attack in the strongest possible terms. I pray former President Trump makes a full and complete recovery and am thankful for the Secret Service and law enforcement for their swift action," said Rep. Colin Allred.

This is a developing story.
