Rick Scott Calls on Opponent to Provide Clarification on Citizenship for Illegal Immigrants

Senator Rick Scott’s (R-FL) campaign for reelection against former Congresswoman Debbie Marcusel-Powell (D-FL) is calling out the Democrat Party for leniency on illegal immigration and the idea of granting citizenship to millions of undocumented persons in the United States.

Sen. Scott’s campaign cited a recent CBS News/YouGov survey that found 53% of Hispanic Americans favor the deportation of undocumented immigrants living in the United States. The campaign also highlighted Senator Elizabeth Warren’s (D-MA) claim that Vice President Kamala Harris (D) – if elected President – would “get it done” given the opportunity to grant citizenship to the undocumented millions.

With this in mind, “Team Rick Scott” is calling on former Rep. Mucarsel-Powell to answer whether she agrees with the sentiment of total amnesty for illegal migrants.

"Joe Biden opened our border on day one in office. He then made Kamala Harris Border Czar and our border remained open while she did nothing,” said the Scott campaign. “Now, Washington socialists want to provide amnesty and citizenship to all illegal aliens, including murderers, rapists, and terrorists. Meanwhile, President Trump and JD Vance are fighting for the American people and to secure the border. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell needs to decide if she agrees with calling for mass amnesty and citizenship for criminals, or if she will condemn her fellow socialists and stand with the American people."

Recently, Sen. Scott took a jab at “socialist Debbie” when he launched the Venezuelans for Rick Scott Coalition in Miami, Florida – Mucarsel-Powell’s backyard.

Alongside piecing together support from the Venezuelan community members and business leaders from the state to support his campaign, Sen. Scott took the opportunity to take a shot at Democrats such as President Joe Biden (D) and Rep. Mucarsel-Powell while also condemning Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

“Everybody up here understands socialism. And everybody understands that’s where America’s headed if we don’t stop the path we’re going down,” said the Florida senator. “Everybody knows what Maduro’s during in Venezuela is despicable. I did a resolution on the Senate floor to support María Corina Machado as the presidential candidate to oppose Maduro, and of course, the Democrats blocked it.”

Finally, Sen. Scott took a jab at Rep. Mucarsel-Powell for not coming out in support of the resolution he introduced, which had no support from the left side of the aisle.

“My Senate opponent has never said that was wrong by the Democrats. As a matter of fact, my Senate opponent that lives here, Socialist Debbie doesn’t say anything about Biden or all the socialism that’s happening with the Democrats around. Biden as we know has negotiated with Maduro. He’s reduced sanctions against Maduro. He’s given clemency to Alex Saab and the Narcos Nephews which we can’t believe. He’s allowed the El Tren de Aragua – the largest criminal gang to enter the United States, which is scary. What I’m trying to do right now is designate them as a transnational criminal organization, but of course, I can’t find one Democrat to support me.”

Senator Scott has served in the upper chamber since 2019. He is expected to face Mucarsel-Powell in the general election on November 5 in an attempt to defend his seat for the first time.
