Cruz Applauds New Designation of Ports-to-Plains Corridor as Interstate 27

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) applauded the Texas Transportation Commission’s decision to designate a section of the highway system in Lubbock County as Interstate 27 and make the Ports-to-Plains Corridor part of the Interstate System. This comes after Sen. Cruz introduced legislation lobbying for this move and was signed into law earlier this year.

The Ports-to-Plains Corridor runs from Laredo, Texas, to Raton, New Mexico.

Sen. Cruz shared his thoughts on the news of the designation, calling it a “long and hard-fought effort” to improve the section of the highway.

“It has been a long and hard-fought effort to improve infrastructure for I-27, but this news is another tremendous step in boosting jobs, economic development, and better transportation for Texans in communities across the Lone Star State,” said Cruz. “The integration of this stretch of I-27 is a welcome sight for leaders and business owners along the I-27 corridor, who will greatly benefit from improved supply chains and safer highways.”

Moreover, the Texas senator stated that his work on incorporating more of the Ports-to-Plains Corridor as a part of the highway system is not finished.

“I was proud to author the bipartisan legislation designating I-27, which will produce thousands of high-paying jobs and billions in new investments in Texas. I will continue to advocate for more stretches of the famed “Ports-to-Plains” corridor to be swiftly incorporated into I-27 pursuant to the law I authored with my colleagues in Congress,” concluded Cruz.

Recently, Sen. Cruz responded to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) putting up millions of dollars against him in TV ads, describing the left side of the aisle as “people trying to destroy America.”

During an interview with Fox News, Senator Cruz commented that his opposers are "pissed off that I'm standing in their way, but they're flooding cash in my race. Liz Cheney, who is out campaigning for Kamala Harris, is campaigning for my opponent too, and the money is flowing in."

The incumbent senator went on to stress that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D) has made it clear that he, himself, is the Democrats' "number 1 target” in the nation.

"Schumer and Soros and Liz Cheney, they are coming after me because they want to take out their opposition, and they want to have open borders. They want to continue the destruction of our country," Senator Cruz added.
