Democrat Kim Ogg Endorses Ted Cruz for Senate

Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R) has just announced an endorsement from across the aisle. Texas District Attorney Kim Ogg, the top law enforcement official in Harris County, has endorsed Senator Cruz in his reelection bid.

Senator Cruz's Democratic challenger, Texas Rep. Collin Allred (D), has also received an endorsement from across the aisle in former Wisconsin Rep. Liz Cheney (R). During an interview with MSNBC, Rep. Cheney spoke of her support for Rep. Allred, commenting that Senator Cruz "will say anything if it serves his own political purpose, and the nation is at a moment where we need public servants who are men and women of good will, who are men and women who will do the right thing."

Senator Cruz released the advertisement on social media. In the advertisement, Ogg comments that "Democrats and Republicans must work together to solve Texans' problems now." Heading into the election, "our safety is on the line in Texas." As such, she commented that Senator Cruz "introduced legislation that would keep violent illegal aliens behind bars until trial."

Because of this, Ogg announced that she would be voting for Senator Cruz over Rep. Allred, reiterating that Senator Cruz is "working to keep Texans safe."

The advertisement comes after another advertisement that directly blamed Rep. Allred for the death of Jocelyn Nungaray.

In the advertisement, Alexis Nungaray, Jocelyn's mother, recounts that her daughter's assailants were "each released on the same they were detained." This, she says, is because of the "Catch & Release" policy. Alexis criticizes the senatorial hopeful, admitting that "Colin Allred pushing that policy ultimately took my daughter's life."

Illegal immigration has been at the forefront of the 2024 election, and it's also been at the forefront of the senate race in Texas. Senator Cruz has repeatedly accused Rep. Allred of supporting "Open Border" policies. In contrast, Rep. Allred has refuted these claims, questioning why Senator Cruz doesn't support the Senate Border Bill.
