Ted Cruz/ Collin Allred
Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R) and Texas Rep. Colin Allred (D) are locked in a tight-race for the senate. Polls indicate that the race could come down to a 1-point race, and Rep. Allred is sure that voters could flip the seat blue. As Texas prepare to decide on November 5th, Rep. Allred is hopeful, commenting that "Texans are looking for new leadership."
The Texas congressman has received a swarm of bad publicity in recent weeks.
A new advertisement directly blames Rep. Allred for the death of Jocelyn Nungaray, and District Attorney Kim Ogg (D) appeared in an advertisement in support of Senator Cruz, but despite this, polls still indicate that the race is extremely close. What's more, Rep. Allred is receiving a significant financial boost from Democrats.
During an interview on MSNBC, Rep. Allred discussed the upcoming election race, and when asked why he would be the one to oust Senator Cruz, he said the answer was simple: "Texans are looking for new leadership."
"We've been through enough with Senator Cruz," Rep Allred commented, adding "we've seen how in the last six years, what he has done."
"From going to Cancun when we needed him most, to trying to overturn our last presidential election to being singularly responsible for this abortion ban that we're experiencing now in Texas," he explained.
The senatorial hopeful instead drew a distinction between the two, saying that unlike Senator Cruz, he has a track record of bipartisan efforts, calling himself "the most bipartisan Texan in Congress." Noting that the senate race is "winnable" for his campaign, he is sure that Texans will support him on November 5th.
Senator Cruz has repeatedly criticized Rep. Allred, calling him "radical and extreme."
