Trump Taps Former ICE Director Homan for 'Border Czar' Position

President-elect Donald Trump (R) tapped former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Tom Homan to lead the administration’s efforts at the border – giving him the title of “Border Czar.”

Vice President Kamala Harris’ (D) campaign rebuked the unofficial title of Border Czar that was given to her once she was tasked with “addressing the root causes of migration.” In March of 2021, President Biden said this upon elevating Harris to the position:

“So it’s not her full responsibility and job, but she’s leading the effort because I think the best thing to do is to put someone who, when he or she speaks, they don’t have to wonder about is that where the President is. When she speaks, she speaks for me.”

President-elect Trump naming Homan the Border Czar wasn’t necessary, but humorous, perhaps.

Trump said this of Homan when he announced him for the job.

"I am pleased to announce that the Former ICE Director, and stalwart on Border Control, Tom Homan, will be joining the Trump Administration, in charge of our Nation’s Borders ('The Border Czar'), including, but not limited to, the Southern Border, the Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security," Trump said on his social media platform, Truth Social.

He continued, saying there is “nobody better” to deport millions of illegal immigrants to their home countries.

"I’ve known Tom for a long time, and there is nobody better at policing and controlling our Borders," said Trump. "Likewise, Tom Homan will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin. Congratulations to Tom. I have no doubt he will do a fantastic, and long awaited for, job."

Homan will join the ranks of the Trump administration alongside those such as Governor Kristi Noem (R-SD), campaign manager Susie Wiles, and former Governor Mike Huckabee (R-AR).

Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) is expected to be picked for the Secretary of State position, according to three sources a part of the vetting process. This was first reported by the New York Times.

According to NBC News, a Trump ally said Sen. Rubio fits in the Secretary of State position because he's a good mixture of "MAGA" but a little more "hawkish" than the incoming presidential ticket.
