Trump's 'Wonderful' Conversation With Mexican President Could Evade Tariff War

Throughout Thanksgiving week, President-elect Donald Trump (R) has threatened the nations of Mexico and Canada with 25% tariffs, citing illegal immigration concerns from both countries. However, President-elect Trump shared that his recent “wonderful” conversation with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum brought solutions to the table surrounding the migrant crisis at the southern border. Recently, President Sheinbaum threatened to respond with tariffs of her own, perhaps bringing both sides to converse rather quickly.

In a social media post on Truth Social, President-elect Trump stated that President Sheinbaum has agreed to stop migration via Mexico.

“Just had a wonderful conversation with the new President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. She has agreed to stop Migration through Mexico, and into the United States, effectively closing our Southern Border,” said Trump on Truth Social. “We also talked about what can be done to stop the massive drug inflow into the United States, and also, U.S. consumption of these drugs. It was a very productive conversation!”

Moreover, the incoming United States president added that the actions from the Mexican president will “go a long way” towards curbing the influx of illegal migrants into the U.S.

“Mexico will stop people from going to our Southern Border, effective immediately. THIS WILL GO A LONG WAY TOWARD STOPPING THE ILLEGAL INVASION OF THE USA. Thank you!!!” said Trump.

Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL) recently said Trump has "the greatest presidential mandate" to carry out in a recent appearance on Fox Business's Kudlow, chastising blue state governors and mayors for their plans to oppose Trump's border agenda.

"Donald Trump has a mandate. He has the greatest presidential mandate, probably since Reagan in 1984. So, to have these blue state governors and these blue city mayors decide that they are going to interpret federal law how they see fit in the face of Donald Trump's overwhelming victory is egregious. But who really suffers are the good people who live in these cities and live in these states. They are American citizens. They deserve to be protected," Rep. Donalds declared.

From there, the Florida Congressman asked if these blue states and cities should continue to receive federal funding if they oppose Trump's agenda.

The Florida congressman said American taxpayer dollars should be used to enforce the law.

"Federal dollars do not belong to any one state or any one city. It comes from the pockets of the American people,” said Rep. Donalds. “And if dollars are going to be going to municipalities and to states, the least they can do is follow the law and help President Trump uphold the law."

President Trump will serve a second non-consecutive term beginning on January 20.
