2024 presidential election

Hunt Says GOP has Mandate for Next Two Years

Representative Wesley Hunt (R-TX) spoke to Texas Politics regarding the “mandate” that has been given to President-elect Donald Trump (R) and the Republican Party as a result of the 2024 election.

The GOP retained the House of Representatives, established a 53-47 lead in the Senate, and, of course, won the White House.

When asked if Republicans should “barrel through” their agenda due to the national support for the party, Rep. Hunt stated that the GOP should get going relatively quickly.

“I don't want to use the word ‘barrel.’ What I would say is the midterms are coming in two years, right? So we have the mandate right now for the next two years to get President Trump's agenda through, full stop. So, whatever we need to do to get that done in the next two years, I say we get started really early, I think we should get this tax cut thing done early. I think we should make sure that we get the border secure very quickly. I think we should have inflation reined in. I think we should get energy prices down. All that needs to happen right now,” said Rep. Hunt.

He added that he has a bold prediction: "We’re going to have world peace by June.”

When asked how the Trump administration will handle the southern border, especially regarding Texas, Rep. Hunt said President-elect Trump’s policies are what Lone Star State residents voted for.

“This is what we voted for. This is why he won overwhelmingly. This is one in three Black men in Texas voted for him. People are sick of what’s happening at the border, and they’re sick of it not being secure,” concluded Hunt.

Moreover, President-elect Trump shared that his recent “wonderful” conversation with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum brought solutions to the table surrounding the migrant crisis at the southern border. Recently, President Sheinbaum threatened to respond with tariffs of her own, perhaps bringing both sides to converse rather quickly.

In a social media post on Truth Social, President-elect Trump stated that President Sheinbaum has agreed to stop migration via Mexico.

“Just had a wonderful conversation with the new President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. She has agreed to stop Migration through Mexico, and into the United States, effectively closing our Southern Border,” said Trump on Truth Social. “We also talked about what can be done to stop the massive drug inflow into the United States, and also, U.S. consumption of these drugs. It was a very productive conversation!”

Moreover, the incoming United States president added that the actions from the Mexican president will “go a long way” towards curbing the influx of illegal migrants into the U.S.

“Mexico will stop people from going to our Southern Border, effective immediately. THIS WILL GO A LONG WAY TOWARD STOPPING THE ILLEGAL INVASION OF THE USA. Thank you!!!” said Trump.

President Trump will serve a second non-consecutive term beginning on January 20.
