Trump to Lift Mexican Tariffs, Mexico to Supply 10,000 Troops at Border

President Donald Trump (R) has announced that a deal has been brokered between the United States and Mexico to lift their competing tariffs against each other. As part of the agreement, Mexico will supply 10,000 troops to the border in an attempt to curb the influx of drug trafficking (specifically fentanyl). The United States has agreed to prevent "high-powered weapons" trafficking south.

The agreement is good for one month.

Here is President Trump's statement that he released on Truth Social, mentioning former Senator and current Secretary of State Marco Rubio's involvement in the deal:

"I just spoke with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico. It was a very friendly conversation wherein she agreed to immediately supply 10,000 Mexican Soldiers on the Border separating Mexico and the United States. These soldiers will be specifically designated to stop the flow of fentanyl, and illegal migrants into our Country. We further agreed to immediately pause the anticipated tariffs for a one month period during which we will have negotiations headed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent, and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and high-level Representatives of Mexico. I look forward to participating in those negotiations, with President Sheinbaum, as we attempt to achieve a 'deal' between our two Countries."

Vice President J.D. Vance (R) was proud and gloated over the likely success of the deal despite previous political blowback that the Trump administration received over the tariffs. Opponents of the move have argued that foreign tariffs would only affect American citizens.

VP Vance believes this deal puts that criticism to bed, asking, "How do you like them apples?"

"For three days a lot of the far left has actively rooted against America and argued we’d get nothing out of President Trunp’s demands that Mexico secure its country. Well, how do you like them apples?" said VP Vance.

This deal between the countries evades a 25% tariff that the United States was going to enforce on Tuesday. At the time of writing, the United States is also set to levy tariffs on Canada and China on Tuesday as well. President Trump will to talk to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau later Monday afternoon.
