Don Lemon’s recent comments have sparked sharp criticism from Texas Rep. Wesley Hunt (R). During an interview with Bill Maher, Lemon argued that black MAGA supporters were merely seeking media attention and criticized their political stance.
“I see a black MAGA person who is carrying Donald Trump’s water, and they know that he’s lying,” Lemon told Maher. “It is the shortest line to the front. Because if you’re black… you’re just in line with a bunch of other Democrats that are doing the same thing that you’re doing. But if you become a black MAGA person, it’s like, ‘whoa,’ let’s book this person. Let’s put him on television.’”
Lemon also drew a distinction between black Republicans and black MAGA supporters, stating, “I don’t think that you can be… black and be a rational MAGA person. I think you can be black and be a Republican.”
Rep. Hunt has now responded to Lemon's comments.
Taking to social media, Rep. Hunt shared a scathing response, accusing Lemon of being out of touch with black conservatives and ridiculing his career setbacks.
“I’ve been holding back on this one, but I just can’t help myself… And since we’re talking about truth, here’s some for Don Lemon,” Hunt wrote on X. “You sold your soul to a left-wing media machine that discarded you like spoiled lunch meat. Most of America found your opinions worthless, unoriginal, and drenched in the same tired narratives that 77 million Americans rejected in November.”
The Texas Republican commented on Lemon’s career decline, noting the cancellation of his CNN show and his failed attempts to stay relevant.
“The most memorable thing you’ve ever done? Getting drunk on live TV on New Year’s Eve,” Rep. Hunt shared.
He concluded by defending black conservatives and touting his own credentials. “I’m a proud husband, father of three, combat veteran, West Point graduate, Ivy League triple-degree holder, and a U.S. Congressman. You know how I achieved that, Don? By being a serious, rational person.”
He also asserted that Lemon’s rhetoric only strengthens the MAGA movement.
“So keep talking, because this racist garbage only strengthens our resolve and grows our movement. Congratulations, you’re helping the cause!”
