Mexican President to Ban DHS Advertisements Against Illegal Immigration

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has announced plans to ban recent advertisements aired by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in Mexico.

The DHS advertisements are designed to deter illegal immigration into the US and have been airing in Mexico in recent weeks.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem is featured in the advertisements giving stern warnings to illegal immigrants.

“If you are a criminal alien considering entering America illegally: Don’t even think about it,” said Secretary Noem in the advertisement. “If you come here and break our laws, we will hunt you down. Criminals are not welcome in the United States.”

President Sheinbaum called the advertisements “disturbing” and “ideological propaganda.”

Moreover, Sheinbaum claimed she would seek to ban DHS advertisements and requested the Mexican Congress, where her party enjoys overwhelming majority control, revive laws enabling the executive to prohibit such advertisements.

“We disagree with the discriminatory propaganda against the migrant population broadcast on television, radio, and social media by the United States government,” said Sheinbaum.

Other ads set to be aired by DHS promote the newly developed CBP Home app and boast the arrests made by DHS of illegal aliens committing crimes within the US.

DHS explains these ads are an effort to deter criminal acts by illegal immigrants.

“Follow the law, and you’ll find opportunity,” continues Secretary Noem in the ad. “If you break it, you’ll find consequences.”

President Donald Trump heavily campaigned on strong immigration enforcement and policing to both detain illegal immigrants and deter future ones from attempting to unlawfully enter the US

President Trump declared a national emergency to enable the executive branch broader access to tools that can be used to curtail illegal immigration.

Noem has since then led a major effort to effectively police the US’ borders not just to prevent illegal immigration, but also human trafficking, drug smuggling, and other transnational crimes.

As a result of Trump and Noem’s actions, illegal immigration has reached historic lows in recent weeks.

“Under President Donald Trump, our borders are more secure than ever in American history,” explained Noem. “Border Patrol encounters for the month of March were 7,181 total. Compare that to the ~160,000 average monthly encounters under Joe Biden.”
