Sen. Cruz Calls for Accountability Over Biden’s Border Failures

WASHINGTON—Senator Ted Cruz (R) issued sharp criticism of the former Biden administration’s handling of immigration, zeroing in on Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and accusing him of repeatedly deceiving the public.

“Look, Mayorkas brazenly defied the law, repeatedly lied to the American people,” Sen. Cruz told Texas Politics. “He was rightly impeached by the House of Representatives.”

Sen. Cruz argued that Mayorkas has not only failed in enforcing immigration laws but also actively misled Americans about the administration’s policies and the capacity of President Joe Biden. He pointed to a recent episode of his podcast as evidence, referencing a television interview in which Mayorkas praised President Biden’s mental acuity.

“In my most recent podcast I played an interview with Mayorkas where he was on TV and lying to the American people about Joe Biden’s mental deterioration,” Sen. Cruz said. “Talking about how incredibly incisive, how difficult it was to prepare for a meeting with Joe Biden because he was just on top of everything.”

Cruz labeled the performance “a level of lying that even in Washington is remarkable,” comparing Mayorkas’ statements to the well-known political duplicity of past administrations.

“I’m reminded of the old, backhanded compliments to Bill Clinton, that he’s an unusually good liar,” he said. “Well, I will say, Mayorkas is an unusually bad liar, because he’s willing to just brazenly lie in a way that is screamingly obvious to anyone listening to him.”

When asked if the Trump administration should directly hold the Biden administration accountable for the border crisis, Cruz affirmed that accountability is necessary and overdue. He framed the issue as not merely one of policy disagreements, but of fundamental integrity and rule of law.

Cruz’s remarks underscore a central theme of Republican criticism, that the Biden administration lost control of the southern border and misrepresented the facts to the public. Mayorkas remains a figure in that debate, one Cruz and others argue exemplifies broader failures in leadership and honesty from the top down.
