Texas Republicans Cheer for House Passage of 'Big Beautiful Bill'

The House of Representatives has passed the so-called "big beautiful bill" by a narrow margin on strict party lines, with 215 votes in favor and 214 votes against it. Several of Texas's Republicans, including Representatives Monica De La Cruz (R-TX), Troy Nehls (R-TX), Jodey Arrington (R-TX), and Pete Sessions (R-TX), praised the bill's passage in response.

Rep. De La Cruz emphasized how the budget plan "strengthens our border security by investing in Border Patrol Agents and innovative border technology."

"This legislation also secures major wins for Americans, such as providing critical tax relief for seniors, eliminating tax on tips and overtime, and preventing tax hikes for families. I am proud to vote for this legislation and will continue to deliver wins for South Texas," Rep. De La Cruz added.

Similarly, Rep. Nehls said, "I proudly voted yes to pass President Trump’s One Big, Beautiful Bill. This America First legislation delivers on our promises to the American people," describing the various measures included in the package, such as making the 2017 tax cuts from Trump's first term permanent, enhancing border security, encouraging energy growth, and rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse in Medicaid.

"The One Big, Beautiful Bill secures numerous wins for the American people, all the while delivering the largest deficit reduction in nearly three decades. With the passage of this bill, we are igniting the economy, securing our homeland, unleashing the power of American energy, and ushering the United States into the Golden Age," Rep. Nehls concluded.

Rep. Arrington ripped the Biden Administration, saying, "Over the last four years, the American people have suffered one self-inflicted disaster after another—from the chaos at our southern border, to our crime ridden streets, to a cost-of-living crisis that decimated working families from sea to shining sea—leaving America weaker, more divided, and more vulnerable than it has been in generations."

"In November, the American people gave President Trump a historic mandate and unified Republican leadership in Congress to reverse course on these failed policies and their disastrous consequences," Rep. Arrington continued. "The One Big Beautiful Bill Act delivers exactly that: the greatest single investment in border security and national defense; the largest tax cuts for families and small businesses; the most significant commitment to unlocking America’s energy resources; and the largest reduction in spending in the history of the United States—by two-fold."

"I urge my Senate colleagues to take up our balanced reconciliation package—and only consider changes that further strengthens our fiscal reforms—so we can quickly advance this One Big Beautiful Bill to the President’s desk and deliver on our promise to Make America Great Again," Arrington concluded.

Finally, Rep. Sessions said, "I am proud that we came together as a team to deliver real results for the American people by passing legislation that prevents the return of burdensome Obama-era tax policies and strengthens Medicaid by ensuring it is no longer extended to illegal immigrants."

"This bill also secures reimbursement for the State of Texas’s vital efforts to protect the border through Operation Lone Star, a top priority for the entire Republican Texas Delegation. Texas has been on the front lines of the previous administration’s irresponsible open-border policy and has apprehended over 531,700 illegal aliens, at a significant cost to Texas taxpayers," Rep. Sessions added. "I am pleased to see this victory achieved and remain committed to delivering more results for Texans and all Americans in the 119th Congress."

As Fox News described, Democrats uniformly voted against the new budget plan, while nearly all Republicans likewise voted in favor, save for Representatives Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Warren Davidson (R-OH). House Freedom Caucus Chair Andy Harris (R-MD) voted "present."
